It's not surprising that microtransactions litter every corner of NBA 2K21--and for me, I've moved on from being outraged to Nba 2k22 Mt feeling despondent. The game borders on a pay-to-win version, with progress tracks that are paced in ways to nudge you towards paying for VC rather than earning it.
Improving your stats nevertheless relies on paying VC, and the costs increase exponentially the further you update a certain ability. There are plenty of nice cosmetics to earn, and it's true a ton of fun dressing up your player in fresh kicks as well as the flyest Nike and Adidas apparel, but their steep VC costs suck the life out of the adventure.
VC permeates the MyTeam way again, also. This mode functions as a fantasy-esque build-your-own-team endeavor in which you earn card packs to unlock players one of a roster which spans numerous NBA eras. MyTeam can be attractive for long-time basketball fans such as myself who've Allen Iverson teamed up with Anthony Davis and may take this dream team roster into single-player or multiplayer matches. However, the loot-box character of making card packs--that can be acquired by gradually earning MT points via new avenues such as challenges, seasonal events, and turning in useless cards, or by buying them with VC--makes the reliance on VC unsurprisingly egregious.
MyGM, which puts you into the shoes of a team's General Manager, is a mode worth mentioning. It's a sports management simulation fantasy, but changes here are just skin deep. You'll undergo awkwardly written and animated dialogue situations to manage relationships in your business --like the way I chatted to RJ Barrett about the way he used to play clarinet so as to boost his morale stats, or became the yes-man of head coach Tom Thibodeau to keep him happy.
MyGM's menus are also flooded in a means that makes it difficult to navigate and get a grasp of how to invest your limited time and resources through the season. I've really enjoyed this mode previously with its RPG-like sensibilities, but it's one that cheap mt nba 2k22 needs a serious revamp.
